Schitt’s Creek's Emmy-winning star Annie Murphy will star in and executive produce Witness Protection.

The feature will be an MRC Film’s female-driven comedy label production that is set to be directed by Becky Sloviter. The project reunites Murphy with Schitt’s Creek scribes Rupinder Gill and David West Read, who will write and executive produce the film.

Witness Protection centres on a woman who shapes her life around her romantic relationships, but when forced to enter witness protection, she has to try to figure out who she really is for the first time while maintaining her cover and keeping the criminals at bay.

The original idea for the project was developed in-house at Alloy Entertainment, which worked with Murphy to refine the project that ultimately sold to MRC Film after negotiations. Elysa Dutton and Leslie Morgenstein will produce for Alloy Entertainment, with Sloviter producing for MRC.

Murphy played Alexis Rose for 80 episodes on Schitt’s Creek. The role won her the 'Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series' at the Emmys last year. The sixth and final season of the show amassed nine Emmy wins, the SAG Award for 'Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series', and many more, becoming the most awarded comedy series in a single year.

Murphy currently stars as Allison on Kevin Can F**k Himself. She will soon be seen in the highly anticipated second season of Netflix’s Russian Doll. Notably, Murphy has also written, produced and performed in The Plateaus,  a web series that also features Elisha Cuthbert and Jay Baruchel.
