Brtish filmmaker Oscar Sharp has teamed up with Damon Lindelof and Matt Reeves to develop a magical-realist medical drama titled The Human Condition for HBO Max.

The original series follows a young British doctor who must learn to treat impossible, fantastical illnesses by healing the emotional issues that underlie them. Apart from doing so, she must also confront her own emotional issues along the way.

The Human Condition is set to be produced by Reeves’ 6th & Idaho production company, UK production company Brightstar, and Warner Bros Television.

Sharp will write, direct, and will serve as an executive producer alongside Lindelof, Reeves, 6th & Idaho’s Daniel Pipski and Rafi Crohn, and Brightstar’s Tanya Seghatchian and John Woodward.

Sharp is known for helming It's No Game and Zone Out. He was nominated for BAFTA for his 2014 short The Kármán Line. He also co-created Sunspring, the world’s first film written entirely by artificial intelligence.

Lindelof was the creator and showrunner of HBO's recent limited series Watchmen. The producer also has a drama co-created with Tara Hernandez headed to Peacock. He was also behind the ABC sci-fi series Lost.

Reeves is currently directing The Batman, apart from developing a drama set in the world of Batman for HBO Max, and an animated series for HBO Max and Cartoon Network.
