Director Payal Kapadia's A Night of Knowing Nothing has won the Oeil d'or (Golden Eye) award for Best Documentary at Cannes Film Festival. The documentary was chosen as the winner from a list of 28 documentaries that were submitted from across the globe.

A Night of Knowing Nothing is based on the story of an Indian college student who writes letters to her estranged lover. American documentary producer Ezra Edelman headed the jury which also consisted of French filmmaker Julie Bertuccelli, Franco-American critic Iris Brey, French actor Deborah Fracois, and Orwa Nyrabia, artistic director of the International Documentary Film Festival (IDFA).

Interestingly, Kapadia's short film Afternoon Clouds had premiered at Cannes 2017 as a Cinéfondation selection. The Mumbai-based filmmaker's other works include the short film Last Mango Before the Monsoon, and the documentary And What is the Summer Saying.
