Grease series in works at Paramount+

A series based on the American musical drama, Grease, is currently in works at Paramount+. The streaming platform has reportedly ordered a 10-episode series, which will serve as a prequel to the original. The iconic 1978 film starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in the lead roles. 

According to reports, the prequel has been titled Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, and will take place four years before the events of the original film. The show’s official logline reads “Before rock ‘n’ roll ruled, before the T-Birds were the coolest in the school, four fed-up, outcast girls dare to have fun on their own terms, sparking a moral panic that will change Rydell High forever.”

Writer Annabel Oakes, whose credits include Angel from HellAtypical, and Awkward, will serve as the showrunner. Oakes will also be executive producing the show with Marty Bowen of Temple Hill and Erik Feig of Picturestart.

Further details related to the show, including the lead cast, are expected to be announced shortly.
