The Cannes Film Festival has concluded on Saturday, with Julia Ducournau's Titane bagging the top prize, the coveted Palme d’Or. Notably, Ducournau became the second woman to win the award in the festival's history after Jane Campion's win in 1993 for The Piano.

In a turn of events, jury president Spike Lee erroneously announced the award at the start of the ceremony. Lee later apologised for the error while officially declaring the winner.

Titane is a body horror-thriller film that marks Ducournau's sophomore feature effort after Raw, a cannibal-coming-of-age horror film, which incidentally premiered at Cannes in 2016.

Titane stars Agathe Rousselle, Vincent Lindon, Garance Marillier, Laïs Salameh, and Dominique Frot in the lead roles, and will be distributed in the US by Neon. Interestingly, Neon was also the distributor of last edition's Palme d’Or winner, Parasite, which went on to win the Best Picture at Oscars in 2020.

There has been no announcement on Titane's worldwide release yet.
