Marjan Kamali’s novel The Stationery Shop is getting a television series adaptation at HBO.

Director and writer Prentice Penny's A Penny For Your Thoughts Entertainment has teamed up with writer, actor Mozhan Marnò and author Kamali for the project.

The novel follows teenagers Roya and Bahman, star-crossed lovers in 1953 Tehran, who are separated on the eve of their marriage by the dramatic events that change the course of history. 60 years later, an accident of fate leads Roya and Bahman back to each other in the United States and offers them a chance to examine the ghosts of their youth and learn the truth about the fateful day that changed their destiny.

Marnò (House of Cards, The Blacklist) will write the pilot of the series. She will also executive produce along with Sam Jay.  A Penny For Your Thoughts’ Head of Development Alex Soler will co-executive produce with Kamali onboard as consulting producer.

Meanwhile, Marnò will also feature in Hulu’s upcoming limited series Pam & Tommy. She is also set to direct Yalda, which has an original script written by her.

Penny, who runs Insecure, recently teamed up with Janine Habers on a single-camera comedy about convicted felon TR “The Brick” Johnson who once was one of America’s most beloved athletes.
