Henry Cavill has been roped in to play the lead in Sony's romantic comedy The Rosie Project, which was once supposed to star Jennifer Lawrence.

Stephen Falk will direct from a script by 500 Days of Summer writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, and Matt Tolmach of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle fame is producing the film with Michael Costigan known for bankrolling Ghost in the Shell.

Cavill will play a university professor, who is unlucky in love and creates a detailed questionnaire to find a wife. When he meets an unconventional woman who doesn’t match any of his “conditions," he's surprised to find that she just might be the perfect partner for him.

Numerous actors were shortlisted to play the lead in The Rosie Project over the years, including both Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal, until eventually, an offer made its way to Cavill, who is hailing from the successes of The Witcher and Enola Holmes.

Cavill recently finished shooting Season 2 of The Witcher, and he'll begin filming the Enola Holmes sequel this fall along with Matthew Vaughn's new star-studded spy thriller Argylle. Thus, The Rosie Project isn't scheduled to start production until early next year.

It may be recalled that Cavill is also attached to star in Lionsgate's Highlander reboot. There is no confirmation on when he will return to play Clark Kent (a) Superman in the DCEU films.
