Kangana Ranaut to play Indira Gandhi in her next 

To be mounted on a grand scale, the film will feature key events like Emergency and Operation Blue Star

Kangana Ranaut will essay former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in a political drama. In a statement, Kangana revealed the film will not be a biopic but a grand period film that will "help my generation to understand (the) socio-political landscape of current India."

The upcoming film will be written and directed by Sai Kabir (Revolver Rani). Kangana said the film is based on a book but did not reveal which one.

Produced by Kangana, the film will highlight key events such as the Emergency and Operation Blue Star. 

"Many prominent actors will be part of this film and of course, I am looking forward to playing the most iconic leader that we have had in the history of Indian politics," Kangana said.

The actor is presently shooting for Dhakkad in Bhopal. She essays former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in the upcoming Thalaivi.
