BBC's hit drama Peaky Blinders will end its iconic television run after its upcoming sixth season. However, all is not lost as creator and writer Steven Knight has promised that the story will “continue in another form.”

Peaky Blinders follows the story of Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and his notorious family’s rise to power against the backdrop of working-class in a post-WWI Birmingham.

BBC confirmed the end while announcing that the show's production has resumed in the UK under strict COVID guidelines.

The news is a surprise to many as Steven Knight had previously stated in an interview that the series will have a seventh season.  In the latest statement, Knight said, "Peaky is back and with a bang. After the enforced production delay due to the COVID pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher. We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it. While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form.”

Executive producer Caryn Mandabach also confirmed that the world of Peaky Blinders will live on. However, there is no information currently about what is in store for Tommy Shelby after season 6.

Anthony Byrne will return to direct season 6 of the series with Nick Goding producing it. Peaky Blinders season 5 aired on BBC One and is currently available on Netflix.
