Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn back government on farmers’ protest after Rihanna’s tweet

A day after international pop sensation Rihanna tweeted about the farmers’ protest in India, several Bollywood celebrities have backed the centre’s stance on the issue. 

Demanding an ‘amicable resolution’ to the protests, Akshay Kumar tweeted,

The actor was responding to a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) claiming the agriculture reforms were passed ‘after a full debate and discussion.’ The statement also criticised celebrities using ‘sensationalist social media hashtags and comments’ to draw attention to the protests. 

Actor Ajay Devgn, who had starred in the 2012 action-comedy Son of Sardar, cautioned the public against ‘false propaganda’. 

Bollywood producer Karan Johar and actor Suniel Shetty also joined the chorus. In a tweet, Karan Johar said,

On Tuesday, Rihanna had reacted to a news piece talking about the protests and wrote:

Teen climate activist Greta Thunberg had also extended her support to the farmers. 

Among the first Indian celebrities to react to Rihanna’s tweet was Kangana Ranaut, who called the pop star a ‘fool’.
