The Lord Of The Rings series to premiere on September 2, 2022 on Amazon Prime Video; first-look out

Amazon Studios' The Lord of The Rings series wrapped its production today and the makers have announced that the series will premiere on September 2, 2022, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

The studio also released a first look image to mark the wrap of the shoot in New Zealand.

Developed by JD Payne and Patrick McKay, The Lord of the Rings series is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth, which is thousands of years before the events of the Lord of the Rings films and the novels by JRR Tolkien on which they were based.

The series is headlined by an ensemble cast that includes Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman, and Sara Zwangobani.

The first two episodes of the series are set to be directed by JA Bayona of Jurrasic World: Fallen Kingdom fame.

Payne and McKay will serve as showrunners and also executive produce with Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, Bayona, Belén Atienza, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, Gennifer Hutchison, Bruce Richmond, and Sharon Tal Yguado. Wayne Che Yip co-executive produces, while and Christopher Newman serves as producer.
