The upcoming family comedy Clifford the Big Red Dog, which was scheduled to hit screens on September 17, has been indefinitely postponed.

Paramount Studios has reportedly arrived at the decision on the back of rising delta variant concerns, and the likelihood of an adverse impact on the box office prospects, considering the film is aimed at families and kids.

Directed by Walt Becker, the film is an adaptation of Norman Bridwell’s children’s book series about a 25-foot-tall red dog and his owner, a young girl named Emily Elizabeth, played by Darby Camp in the film. Clifford the Big Red Dog also features Jack Whitehall, John Cleese, and Tony Hale in supporting roles.

It was earlier announced that the film will premiere as a Gala Presentation at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival in September. However, it is unclear whether the film festival premiere is still on track. 

Paramount Studios is expected to announce a revised release date shortly.
