Domhnall Gleeson has been roped in to play the lead in HBO's five-part limited series The White House Plumbers, opposite Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux.
The series revisits Watergate, one of the biggest political scandals in American history.
Created and written by Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck, and directed by David Mandel, The White House Plumbers is based partly on public records and on the book Integrity by Egil “Bud” Krogh and Matthew Krogh.
The series will tell the true story of how E Howard Hunt (Harrelson) and G Gordon Liddy (Theroux), political saboteurs and Watergate masterminds, accidentally toppled the Presidency of Former United States President Richard Nixon - the presidency that they were zealously trying to protect.
According to Deadline, Gleeson will play John Dean, an ambitious, youthful White House Counsel who orchestrates the illegal cover-up that brought down Nixon and his administration.
The series will be co-produced by wiip. Harrelson and Theroux are also set to executive produce with Alex Gregory, Peter Huyck, and David Mandel, alongside Ruben Fleischer and David Bernad for The District, and Frank Rich.
This marks Gleeson’s return to HBO after Run. Gleeson currently appears in the comedy series Frank of Ireland and will soon be seen in Will Gluck’s Peter Rabbit 2, opposite Rose Byrne and David Oyelowo.
