At the 93rd Academy Awards held earlier today, Yuh-Jung Youn has won this year's Oscar for the Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Minari.

The win makes her the second Asian woman to win in the category, more than four decades after Japanese-born Miyoshi Umeki earned the trophy for 1957's Sayonara. Youn is also the first Korean to win an Oscar in the category.

Youn's performance garnered her multiple awards that include a Screen Actors Guild Award and a British film and TV academy award

Minari follows the life of an immigrant family from Korea. Youn plays the character of Soon-ja, a suave card-playing grandmom.

Minari, directed by Lee Isaac Chung, co-stars Steven Yeun, Han Ye-ri, and Alan S Kim. The drama was also nominated in other categories such as best picture, best director and best lead actor.
