Lyca Productions presses charges against Shankar for not completing Indian 2

Indian 2, the highly-anticipated sequel to the 1996 Shankar-Kamal Haasan film, was announced in the finale of 2017's Bigg Boss Tamil. The film faced a lot of hurdles, including a fatal crane accident on the sets, Kamal Haasan's break from cinema to focus on his political career, and the pandemic lockdown, and was eventually put on hold. Lyca Productions has now pressed charges against the director for not completing the film despite spending a massive budget of 180 crores.

This move of Lyca was reportedly triggered by the announcement of Shankar's new film with Ram Charan.

Madras High Court, however, has refused to grant an interim injunction preventing Shankar from helming any other projects before completing Indian 2 and has mentioned that such an injunction can be passed only after hearing from the director. The court has asked Shankar to respond to the order before April 15.

Several sources state that the production house had paid Shankar 14 crores out of the promised remuneration of 40 crores and is willing to pay the rest, provided the director resumes the film.

Also starring Kajal Aggarwal, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Siddharth, and Bobby Simha, Indian 2 has music by Anirudh Ravichander and cinematography by Rathnavelu.
