Nawazuddin Siddiqui has commented on the sexual assault charges against Anurag Kashyap. On September 19, an actor had, in a tweet, accused Anurag of being sexually inappropriate with her. She had subsequently filed an FIR against the director, accusing him of raping her at a place in Versova, Mumbai in 2013.

Nawazuddin and Anurag have collaborated on films like Black Friday, Dev D, Gangs of Wasseypur 1 and 2, and Raman Raghav 2.0. They have also worked together on both seasons of Sacred Games. Nawazuddin’s 2020 release, Ghoomketu, had Anurag as a co-star and producer.

“Anurag has always shown women as strong and self-dependent in his films,” Nawazuddin told Cinema Express in an interview. “He has always supported and stood by female actors and technicians. If you visit his set, you’ll see that he makes the environment conducive for women. They never feel they’ve come to a new place. All female actors come out of his films doing their best work.”

Nawazuddin will next be seen in Sudhir Mishra’s Serious Men. An adaptation of Manu Joseph’s satirical novel, the film is set to premiere on Netflix on October 2.
