Following severe backlash, the makers of Khaali Peeli have changed the song Beyoncé Sharma Jayegi to Duniya Sharma Jayegi. The song, which dropped last week and featured Ananya Panday and Ishaan Khatter in the music video, was criticised for its racial overtones. The track, written by Kumaar and Raj Shekhar and composed by Vishal-Shekhar, was slammed for calling Ananya’s character a ‘goriya’ (fair-skinned girl) who would put ‘Beyoncé to shame’.

“We have made the film to entertain audiences and not to offend or hurt anyone,” director Maqbool Khan said in a statement. “Since our lyrical arrangement did not go well with few people, we thought why not keeping the essence the same, change the song a little bit.”

The makers have uploaded the altered version Duniya Sharma Jayegi on YouTube. The beat and musical arrangement of the song stay the same. The producers plan to drop another track from the film in a few days.

Khaali Peeli is set for a simultaneous multi-format release on October 2 on the new pay-per-view service Zee Plex. The film also stars Jaideep Ahlawat as the antagonist.
