Legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, who has been admitted to a private hospital in Chennai for over a month now, after testing positive for COVID-19, is firmly on the road to recovery. This was revealed in a health update provided by his son, SPB Charan, today.

In his statement, Charan said, "We were hoping for very good news over the weekend. We were expecting dad's lungs to improve to a certain point where we could remove the ventilator. But, unfortunately, they are still not at that point. But the good news is dad is COVID negative. Negative or positive doesn't matter right now, as we are hoping and expecting his lungs to heal fast. They are healing but they are taking some time. Other than that, over the weekend, we had a small celebration for mom and dad on their anniversary. Dad is watching a lot of cricket and tennis on his iPad. He is happy that the season has started. He is looking forward to the IPL. He is writing and communicating a lot. He is not in sedation. He is very clear and bright, and physiotherapy is going on as planned. We thank you all for the love, concern and prayers. Let's keep the prayers going. I am praying for everybody including my father. Let's keep hope alive."

The singer got admitted to a Chennai hospital on August 5 after testing positive for COVID-19. SPB was later put on life support on August 14 when his condition worsened after a bout of pneumonia.
