Jake Gyllenhaal has reportedly been roped in for HBO's limited series The Son, which is an adaptation of Jo Nesbø's novel of the same name.

Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, and Gyllenhaal's Prisoners and Enemy director Denis Villeneuve will executively produce the show. Joy and Nolan, who will also serve as co-showrunners, are roped in via Kilter Films along with Athena Wickham. Villeneuve will also direct the series, according to reports.

According to Variety, The Son is described as a tale of vengeance set amid Oslo’s brutal hierarchy of corruption.

The series marks the second HBO project with Gyllenhaal, after Lake Success, which is based on the Gary Shteyngart novel of the same name.

The Son will mark the first regular television role of Gyllenhaal’s career, though he has previously appeared on shows like Inside Amy Schumer and the Netflix special John Mulaney and the Sack Lunch Bunch.

Gyllenhaal will also executively produce the series under his Nine Stories Productions banner, along with Riva Marker. Lenore Zion will serve as writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner.

Bold Films’ David Litvak, Gary Michael Walters, Michel Litvak, and Svetlana Metkina are also to serve as executive producers with Nesbø and Niclas Salomonsson. Nine Stories Productions, Kilter Films, and Bold Films will produce in association with Warner Bros Television.
