Paramount’s highly anticipated Cleopatra biopic will be directed by Patty Jenkins. The film is set to feature actor Gal Gadot as Cleopatra, the legendary Egyptian Queen. The announcement was made on Sunday, on the occassion of the International Day of the Girl.

The director-actor duo previously teamed up for the successful 2017 film Wonder Woman. Jenkins and Gadot’s Wonder Woman sequel titled Wonder Woman 1984 is expected to be out later this year. Meanwhile, expectations soar over this new production of the duo.

The massive period drama will be written by Laeta Kalogridis, who will also serve as the executive producer.

Gal Gadot shared on Twitter that she has teamed up with Jenkins and Kalogridis to tell the story of Cleopatra in an inventive way "through the lens of women both behind and in front of the camera." Gadot also added that they were thrilled to make the announcement on the International Day of the Girl. "We hope women and girls all around the world, who aspire to tell stories will never give up on their dreams and will make their voices heard, by and for other women," she said.

Hollywood previously adapted the story of Cleopatra in the 1963 epic named after the eponymous character. The classic film, which featured Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra, was directed by Joseph L Mankiewicz.

Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven, Jenkins, Gadot and her Pilot Wave Motion Picture’s Jaron Varsano will produce the upcoming epic.
