Marvel Studios has roped in new face Iman Vellani to play Ms Marvel (a) Kamala Khan, their first Pakistani-American teen superhero.

The Canadian actor from Toronto will play the titular role in the Disney+ series before appearing on the big screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 

The series will be helmed by Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, two-time Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and Meera Menon. Bisha K Ali, a scribe and stand-up comic, will serve as head writer on the project.

Ms Marvel, who debuted in 2014 as Marvel's first Muslim character possesses the power of shape-shifting and healing factor.
