Phil Lord and Chris Miller to Direct Ryan Gosling's Astronaut Film

Ryan Gosling's upcoming astronaut film by MGM will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The duo is also on board produce the film that is to be adapted from a new novel by Andy Weir, who is known for writing The Martian.

The film is jointly produced by Amy Pascal, Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, and Andy Weir. Lord, Miller, and Pascal have a long-running relationship and the trio recently won an Oscar as producers of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Weir’s upcoming book is currently untitled but referred to as Project Hail Mary. It is described as the solitary tale of an astronaut on a space ship who is tasked with saving the planet. The book will be published in the spring of 2021 by Random House.
