Ankur Tewari, Ashutosh Phatak collaborate on the music for REJCTX2

REJCTX2 is a teen musical thriller revolving around seven Indian students studying at ‘The Jefferson World School’. Thrust into a new world, the bunch of misfits and rebels make a musical squad to express themselves.

Singer-songwriter Ankur Tewari and composer-producer Ashutosh Phatak have created the music of REJCTX2. The duo collaborated with students of The True School of Music to crack the youthful sound.

Speaking about the project, Ankur shared, “The idea was to compose catchy songs for REJCTX2, that are easily hummable and sung while retaining a feel that they are made in dorm rooms and not a professional hi-tech studio. The music resonates with the 8 characters of the kids in the show. So we decided to collaborate with students from a music school, to write sketches of melodies and words. We then ended up polishing the rough edges retaining the raw ideas that these students brought forward.”

Ashutosh Phatak, who is the co-founder of The True School of Music, added, “It’s been a fun collaborative process creating these songs not only with Ankur but also with the many True School Students that were involved in the project. We tried to capture the sensibility of the younger generation by keeping the songs youthful, urban, and indie.” Ankur and Ashutosh will also be doing a live session for the show on May 10.

Produced by Goldie Behl, REJCTX2 stars Esha Gupta, Sumeet Vyas, Ahmed Masi Walia, Anisha Victor, Ayush Khurana and others. The show is set to premiere on May 14 on ZEE5.
