Taika Waititi to direct a Star Wars movie

Disney and Lucasfilm announced that director Taika Waititi will be directing a new Star Wars movie. The Jojo Rabbit director will be writing the film along with Krysty Wilson-Cairns, according to reports. 

Waititi directed the finale of the hit Star Wars spin-off series, The Mandalorian. Fans of the franchise were hoping that the director would direct a Star Wars film, and now, it looks like their wishes are getting fulfilled. 

Disney had earlier announced three Star Wars films, which would be released in 2022, 2024, and 2026, respectively. However, it is yet to be confirmed whether Taika Waititi's film is one of these three. 

In addition to the films, a Star Wars series has also been announced, to be made by Russian Doll-creator Leslye Headland.
