Ryan Gosling is all set to star in an adaptation of Andy Weir's new novel Project Hail Mary. Gosling will also produce the film, which revolves around the story of an astronaut on a spaceship with a mission to save the world.

Gosling, who was nominated for Oscars for Half Nelson and La La Land, was last seen on screens as Neil Armstrong in Damien Chazelle's First Man. MGM is reportedly in talks with Weir to acquire the sci-fi project. The novel will be published by Random House next year.

Weir's first self-published novel Martian (2011) was a huge success and that book was adapted into the critically and commercially successful film starring Matt Damon.
