Maidaan star Ajay Devgn mourns PK Banerjee’s demise

Maidaan star Ajay Devgn has mourned the demise of legendary footballer PK Banerjee. The veteran player, whose squad clinched gold at the 1962 Asian Games, passed away aged 83 on Friday in Kolkata.

Ajay, who essays PK Banerjee’s coach Syed Abdul Rahim in Maidaan, wrote, “Had the good fortune of meeting football legend PK Banerjee in Kolkata during the Maidaan schedule in November. Sad to hear about his demise. RIP, the man with the golden kick #PKBanerjee.” The actor also shared a picture with the legendary striker during the shoot.

Maidaan is directed by Badhaai Ho’s Amit Ravindranath Sharma. The film recreates the golden age of Indian football (1952-1962). South actor Priyamani has replaced Keerthy Suresh in the role of Syed Abdul's wife.

PK Banerjee is survived by his daughters Purna and Paula and younger brother Prasun Banerjee. The veteran football was suffering from respiratory problems due to pneumonia. He was admitted on life support at a Kolkata hospital since March 2.
