Following Rajinikanth's political speech yesterday, director Bharathiraja issued a statement lauding the actor-turned-politician's intentions and welcomed him into Tamil politics.

In his statement, Bharathiraja referred to the actor as 'a great human being' and 'humble hearted'. Invoking Tamil fraternity, he noted that Rajini stands for the truth, that is, "Tamilian should rule the Tamils, the most capable race to rule, to adorn the crown."

The director welcomed Rajinikanth's principles which he believes would benefit Tamil people and is "far ahead of the contemporary thinking of the political class." He ended the statement saying that Rajinikanth would "turn the first page of his political career by appointing a Tamilian to rule the Tamils."

In his speech, Rajinikanth had stated that he has no interest in becoming the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. He went on to say that he prefers to remain the head of his prospective party and only wants a change in the political scene of the state.
