New Mutants has had a very shaky journey over the years. It has been delayed by years now. The first teaser of the film was released way back in 2017. Disney's acquisition of Fox Studio is cited to be one of the main reasons for such a long delay. However. things were looking good for the film at the start of the year, when it was expected to get a release in April. Then, the coronavirus outbreak happened.

Directed by Josh Boone, the film is currently scheduled for release in August.

Meanwhile, the director has said that he would like to make two sequels to the film and make it a trilogy. SFX Magazine quoted him as saying, "Ultimately, after all this time, I was able to make MY New Mutants film, and I'm am proud of it. What I'm hoping for now is that it will be successful enough so the studio will allow me to complete a trilogy. I've got all planned out."

Given the precarious state of cinema industries and theatres across the world, the chances of Josh Boone's desire turning out to be true depend entirely on the performance of New Mutants

New Mutants has Maise Williams, Anya Taylor, and Charlie Heaton in the lead roles.
