Netflix has acquired writer-director Gitanjali Rao's animated feature film, Bombay Rose, which was painted frame by frame. The movie is expected to be released worldwide, except in China, towards the end of the year. It is one of 17 upcoming titles in the line-up announced by Netflix India today.

Based on true events, the movie follows a young club dancer named Kamala, who fights child marriage, poverty, and is left to choose between family and love. The voice cast includes Cyli Khare, Amit Deondi, Gargi Shitole, and Makrand Deshpande.

It was animated by Paperboat Design Studios and produced by Rohit Khattar and Anand Mahindra. Deborah Sathe and Tessa Inkelaar executive produced the film, which became the first Indian animated feature to be selected to open Venice Critics Week.

Bombay Rose was screened at Toronto, Busan and London festivals. It also won awards at the Chicago and Mumbai film festivals.
