Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller is working on a prequel to the acclaimed film based on the character Furiosa played by Charlize Theron. However, the actress will not return to play the role in the upcoming movie.

In a recent interview, Charlize opened about not being part of the film and called it 'heartbreaking'. She said, "I really love that character, and I'm so grateful that I had a small part in creating her. She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly. Obviously, I would love to see that story continue, and if he (George Miller) feels like he has to go about it this way, then I trust him in that manner."

She also added, “It’s a tough one to swallow. Listen, I fully respect George, if not more so in the aftermath of making Fury Road with him. He’s a master, and I wish him nothing but the best."

After the success of Mad Max, the actress went on to act in a slew of movies like Tully, The Huntsman: Winter War, and Bombshell. She will next be seen in The Old Gaurd, a superhero film, which is set to release on Netflix on Friday. The film is about a group of mercenaries with healing powers, who live in isolation to guard their secret. Charlize plays the role of Andy in the film which is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood.
