Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya to premiere on Netflix

CE Features

With theatres across the Telugu States remaining closed to contain the spread of Covid-19, several filmmakers are choosing to release their films directly on OTT platforms. If reports are anything to go by, actor Satyadev Kancharana's upcoming film Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya will soon have a direct digital release.

A remake of the 2016 Malayalam film Maheshinte Prathikaaram, the comedy-drama will premiere on Netflix on July 15. Directed by C/o Kancharapalem-fame Venkatesh Maha, Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya tells the story of a photographer, whose life turns upside down after a fight with a stranger in his village. How the protagonist plots revenge forms the crux of the film.

Starring Fahadh Faasil and directed by Dileesh Pothan, the Malayalam film went on to win two National Awards for best original screenplay and best feature film in Malayalam. The film was remade in Tamil as Nimir (2018) by director Priyadarshan, but it failed to recreate the magic of the original at the box office. Speculations were rife that a Hindi version is also in the pipeline, but details about the film are yet to be announced.
