Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone joined the protests against the recent violence at New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University. The Chhapaak actor was clicked outside the campus expressing her solidarity with the students. She also met JNU’s Student Union President Aishe Ghosh, who was attacked on Sunday evening.

Deepika was in New Delhi to promote her upcoming film, which is based on the life of acid survivor Laxmi Agarwal. 

At a previous event, Deepika had spoken about the on-campus violence and the nationwide protests. “I am proud to see that we are not scared to express ourselves. The fact that we are considering this and speaking about it, irrespective of the point of view we have, is a great thing to witness,” she had said. 

On Monday evening, a number of prominent Bollywood celebrities including Anurag Kashyap, Vishal Bhardwaj, Anubhav Sinha, Taapsee Pannu and Zoya Akhtar had attended a protest gathering at Mumbai’s Carter Road. The celebrities condemned the attack and urged more public figures to speak out. 

A mob of masked goons had stormed the JNU hostels on Sunday evening, attacking students and teachers with sticks and rods.
