Days after he narrowly escaped a tragic accident on the sets of Indian 2 at Chennai's EVP Film City, director Shankar has finally commented on the incident. Taking to Twitter, the filmmaker emotionally remarked that he wished the crane had fallen on him instead.

"It is with utmost grief that I am tweeting this. Since the tragic incident, I have been in a state of shock and have had sleepless nights over the loss of my assistant director and crew. Having missed the crane by a whisker, I feel it would have been better if it was on me. Heartfelt condolences and prayers to the families," he said.

Besides Shankar, Indian 2 actors Kamal Haasan and Kajal Aggarwal also had a narrow escape on that fateful night.

The tragedy, which killed three and left many injured, has shaken the Tamil film industry, prompting Kamal to pen a letter to Lyca Productions’ founder-chairman Subaskaran Allirajah, the producer of Indian 2, to make sure that all safety measures are put in place before the shoot can resume.
