Venkat Prabhu's Maanadu, starring Silambarasan TR and Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead, went on floors today. The formal launch event was attended by the crew and cast members, including Bharathiraja, Premgi, Karunakaran, and producer Suresh Kamatchi.

The project had faced multiple delays due to a variety of reasons and this almost forced the makers to consider changing the hero. The fracas also lead to Simbu announcing his own project named Maghaamaanadu, directed by his father T Rajendran. However, the situation was solved amicably.

Silambarasan has reportedly hit the gym and reduced weight for his role as Abdul Khaliq in this political satire.

Also starring SJ Suryah, Y Gee Mahendran, Manoj Bharathiraja, and Bigg Boss-fame Daniel Anne Pope, Maanadu will have music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
