The original director of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Scott Derrickson supports Sam Raimi taking over the project after his exit.

Derrickson, who also helmed the first Doctor Strange film, stepped down citing creative differences with the producers. However, an official announcement about Raimi coming on board has not been made yet.

The production was planned to begin in May this year, with release scheduled a year later. While Benedict Cumberbatch will return as Supreme Sorcerer, Rachel McAdams will not be a part of the new film.

Earlier, Derrickson had announced that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first scary film. However, Marvel's head honcho Kevin Feige later stated that the film is more of an MCU film with scary sequences in it.
