Nitesh Tiwari and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari have teamed up with producer Mahaveer Jain for a film based on the Indian soldiers in Siachen. The military drama, tentatively titled Siachen Warriors, will be directed by ad filmmaker Sanjay Shekhar Shetty. The script is written by Piyush Gupta and Gautam Ved.

Located in the Karakoram Range, the Siachen Glacier has been a domain of military conflict between India and Pakistan. On April 13, 1984, the Indian Army carried out Operational Meghdoot, capturing the Siachen region in Kashmir. Tensions escalated over the next three decades, with a ceasefire going up in 2003. The area, which demarcates central Asia from the subcontinent, is considered to hold strategic importance to the Indian Army, allowing them to monitor the activities of Pakistan and China.

Siachen Warriors is based on the 2016 Siachen avalanche and highlights “the extreme risks faced by Indian soldiers face in manning the inhospitable terrain at heights of 21,000 feet under extreme weather conditions on the world's highest battlefield.”

Talking about the film, Nitesh Tiwari says, “With this film, I want to give tribute to the heroes of our country. The story of Siachen is inspiring and defines bravery, patriotism, and love for the nation. The film is a humble ode to our men in uniform who risk their lives to keep us safe. We hope that the story reaches out to every individual in the country.”

Ashwiny adds, “The rescue mission was so incredible for a moment you forget that what happened was real and not a piece of fiction. We hope to do justice to the subject and bring alive the human side of our warriors.”
