Nayanthara has denied being part of a film on Velu Nachiyar. It was announced earlier that a film on the life of the freedom fighter was in the works. Produced by 18 K studios, this film has been titled Veera Mangai Velu Nachiyar - The Queen of Sivagangai and will be directed by cinematographer-turned-director Rajendran Manimaran. 

The announcement said that a leading, experienced female actor would be playing the role of Velu Nachiyar. Following this, speculation was rife that Nayanthara had agreed to be part of the project. However, the actor's spokesperson has now categorically denied this with an official statement. 

Veera Mangai Velu Nachiyar will have cinematography by PC Sreeram. The film is set to go on floors in the second week of January.
