The much-awaited release update of Vijay's upcoming film, Master, came today from its makers. The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial will hit the screens on January 13, 2021, on the occasion of Pongal. The Hindi version of the film, titled Vijay The Master, will be released a day later on January 14.

This move is much-welcomed by theatre owners and distributors, who were waiting for a big-ticket release to ensure the return of crowds to cinemas. Reports suggest that Vijay met the Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday to request the government to relax the restrictions on theatres, which currently are only permitted to have 50 per cent occupancy, and allow 100 per cent occupancy. This was also a demand made by the exhibitors association later that day.

Master, which has music by Anirudh Ravichander, also stars Vijay Sethupathi, Malavika Mohanan, Arjun Das, Shanthnu Bhagyaraj, Andrea, and Gowri Kishen, among others.
