Warner Bros' Mortal Kombat film has a new release date — April 16, 2021. The famous franchise started off with the 1992's Mortal Kombat arcade fighting game

Notably, the first film adaptation of the game in 1995 is still regarded as one of the best live-action video game movies of all time. The poor response to the sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation led to the cancellation of a third instalment.

Warner Bros' attempt at bringing back the franchise led to the new Mortal Kombat film, which was slated for release in January 2021. However, the unforeseen COVID-19 pandemic pushed the release date and it is now set to hit theatres in April.

A poster was shared on the film's Twitter account confirming the new release date. The film will out both in theaters and exclusively on HBO Max. This simultaneous release comes after Warner Bros' controversial decision to release all of its 2021 films in both theatres and HBO Max.

Directed by Simon McQuoid, Mortal Kombat stars Ludi Lin, Mechad Brooks, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, Hiroyuki Sanada, Joe Taslim, Chin Han, Sisi Stringer, Max Huang, and Lewis Tan.
