Netflix cancels Hoops after first season

CE Features

Netflix has canceled its adult-animated sitcom Hoops after one season. The show, created by Ben Hoffman, starred New Girl's Jake Johnson as Ben Hopkins, a hot-headed coach of the Lenwood High Colts.

The show deals with Ben's complicated relationship with his father Barry (Rob Riggle), and Ben's equation with his estranged wife Shannon (Natasha Leggero), who is dating his best friend Ron (Ron Funches). In Hoops, Johnson reteamed with producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller after 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Variety reported that Netflix, which released the series in August this year, weighed the show's cost against its viewership and decided not to renew the series for a second season.

Hoops is now the latest addition to the list of Netflix shows like Away, I Am Not Okay With This, The Society, Tuca & Bertie that were unfortunately canceled after one season.

Hoops also featured Cleo King, AD Miles, Steve Berg, Sam Richardson, Nick Swardson, Eric Edelstein, Mary Holland, Gil Ozeri, and Max Greenfield.
