Legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, who has been admitted in a private hospital in Chennai since early this month after testing positive for COVID-19, is firmly on the road to recovery. This was revealed in a health update provided by his son, SPB Charan, today.

In his statement, Charan said, "I had a conversation with the doctors. Everything seems normal. Dad is responding. He is 90 per cent out of sedation, and is doing well. He is responding to the doctors and the treatment. We, as a family, are very grateful for the love, affection, and prayers that have come my father's way. Grateful to the MGM Health Centre, and the doctors who are diligently working on my father and his treatment and are making sure he is going to recover from this illness. Thank you all again, and just keep praying and hopefully, we will see my father as early as possible. It is a very good day for everybody who is following my updates expecting my father's speedy recovery."

Charan also pointed out the reason why he is giving his updates in English. "It wouldn't be possible for me to provide these announcements in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, or in each language he's sung. I am in between prayers, talking to the doctors, etc... That's why I have to stick to one language."

The singer got admitted to a Chennai hospital on August 5 after testing positive for COVID-19. SPB was later put on life support on August 14 when his condition worsened after a bout of pneumonia.
