Soorarai Pottru, Suriya's highly anticipated film, directed by Sudha Kongara, will be forgoing a theatrical release owing to the present shut down of theatres caused by the coronavirus pandemic and instead have a direct OTT release on Amazon Prime on October 30.

Suriya announced the news via his official twitter handle, along with a detailed press statement explaining their decision.

Promising his fans that he is working double the time to ensure he completes not one, but two films in time for theatrical release once the situation turns normal, Suriya also revealed that a sum of five crores from the revenue of Soorarai Pottru will be donated to the needy.

Following Jyotika's Ponmagal Vandhal and Keerthy Suresh's Penguin, Nani's 25th film V was recently announced as a digital release. Similarly, it is also speculated that Dhanush's Jagame Thandhiram, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, Jayam Ravi's Bhoomi and Vishal's Chakra will skip theatres.

Soorarai Pottru, co-starring Aparna Balamurali, has music by GV Prakash and cinematography by Niketh Bommireddy.
