Tamil film industry unites to pray for SP Balasubrahmanyam

A special online prayer meeting was organised by director Bharathiraja today for veteran singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, who has contracted Covid-19 and is undergoing treatment. 

This meeting saw several eminent film personalities such as Ameer, KS Ravikumar, Sathyaraj, Saroja Devi, Sarathkumar and Radikaa Sarathkumar, Singer Mano, Sivakumar, D Imman, R Parthiban, singer KS Chitra, Manobala, Chandrasekar, Thankar Bachchan, Prabhu, Sivakumar, lyricist-composer Gangai Amaran, singer Mano, director Gauthaman, and several others. 

Speaking at the meeting after a short prayer, a tearful Bharathiraja said, “This is a duty we do for our fellow artistes. We are a community, and we have to do this for each other. SPB is a great human being. He will be back soon.” The celebrities also took the opportunity to wish SPB a swift recovery, and share their experiences with him. 

The veteran singer had admitted himself to a private hospital in Chennai on August 5. His condition took a turn for the worse last week, and prayers and wishes for his recovery have been pouring in since. SPB is currently on ventilator and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support.

With an impressive discography of more than 40,000 songs in several languages, SPB is one of India’s most celebrated voices. The singer’s recent Tamil releases include Chumma Kizhi from Darbar, composed by Anirudh Ravichander, and Neethan En Kanavu from Tamizharasan, which has music by Ilayaraja.
