Idris Elba has said that a film version of the popular BBC detective series, Luther is in development. The actor revealed the news after receiving the BAFTA Special Award for his craft and for pushing for diversity and new talent.

"I've maintained I'd like to see it come to a film, and that is where I think we are heading towards — a film. And I'm looking forward to making that happen. It is happening," he said, reports Variety. "With film, the sky is the limit. You can be a little bit bolder with the storylines. And (you can be) a little bit more international, and a little more up the scale. But John Luther is always going to be John Luther."

The TV series, created by Neil Cross, ended in 2019 after five seasons.

Elba is also known for his role in the HBO series The Wire. He has expressed his desire to soon win the BAFTA Award for acting as well. Elba has two much-awaited releases in the pipeline — Concrete Cowboys and The Suicide Squad.
