Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor passed away earlier today at a private hospital in Mumbai. He was 67.

The actor returned to India last September after undergoing treatment for cancer in the US for almost a year.

In February, Rishi Kapoor was hospitalised twice due to his health issues. He was first admitted to a hospital in Delhi where he was attending a family function. At the time, the actor had said that he was suffering from an "infection."

After his return to Mumbai, he was again admitted to a hospital with viral fever. He was discharged soon after.

Rishi, who was active on Twitter, had not posted anything since April 2. His last film appearance was in The Body, with Emraan Hashmi and Sobhita Dhulipala. He was set to star alongside Deepika Padukone in the Indian adaptation of The Intern.

Just a day ago, actor Irrfan Khan had passed away after a two-year battle with cancer.

“This is a terrible week for Indian cinema, with the passing of another legend, actor Rishi Kapoor. A wonderful actor, with a huge fan following across generations, he will be greatly missed. My condolences to his family, friends and fans all over the world, at this time of grief,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

Rishi Kapoor was the son of actor-director Raj Kapoor and the grandson of Prithviraj Kapoor. He is survived by his wife, Neetu Kapoor, and children Ranbir and Riddhima Kapoor.
