Srilakshmi Kanakala, sister of actor Rajeev and sister-in-law of renowned television presenter Suma, passed away in Hyderabad today. She was being treated for cancer and breathed her last at her residence around 2 pm, say reports.

Trained in acting under her parents and actors Lakshmi Devi and Devadas Kanakala, Srilakshmi began her career as a child artiste with Dooradarshan's Rajasekhara Charitra. She donned big and small roles in several television serials and shows, including Agnipoolu, Chinnari, Super Mom, and Ruthu Geetham.

It may be recalled that her mother Lakshmi passed away on February 3, 2018, while her father Devadas died last year after a brief illness.

Sri Lakshmi's friends from the acting fraternity, including actor Harshavardhan of Amrutham fame, expressed shock and grief over her demise on social media.

In a voice note, Harshavardhan has requested fans and well-wishers of Rajeev and Suma to stay back at home and not visit them amid the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. He also stated that he has released this statement after discussing it with Srilakshmi's family members.

Srilakshmi is survived by her husband Peddi Rama Rao and daughters Prerna and Ragaleena.
