Sholay actor Vijay Khote passes away at 78

He was also known for his roles in Andaz Apna Apna, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, China Gate, Khiladi 420, and Golmaal 3

Veteran actor Vijay Khote, best known for playing the dacoit Kalia in Sholay (1975), passed away aged 78. He suffered multiple organ failure, and breathed his last at his Mumbai residence this morning. 

Vijay started his career in 1964. Besides Kalia, the actor is loved for his character Robert in Andaz Apna Apna. His other popular appearances were in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, China Gate, Khiladi 420, Golmaal 3, and Ventilator. In all, he acted in over 300 Hindi and Marathi films. His last appearance was in the 2018 film Jaane Kyun De Yaaron, directed by Akash Anand. 

Vijay was also noted for his work on the television show Zabaan Sambhalke, a remake of the British sitcom, Mind Your Language. Additionally, he was a prominent figure in Marathi theatre. 

Vijay’s cremation was held in Chandan Wadi at 11 am today. He is survived by his sister Shubha Khote and niece Bhavana Balsavar.
