Director Vasanth’s Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pengalum has been adjudged the best film at the 28th Fukuoka International Film Festival.

Vasanth, who is in Japan for the festival, said, "I am very humbled and happy. I thank the festival team and I'd like to place on record my writers — the heroes — the late Ashokamitran, the late Aadhavan, and the living legend Jeya Mohan. They are the backbone of this film and I would like to thank them in a big way at this happy time."

Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pengalum, starring Parvathy Thiruvothu, Lakshmi Priya Chandramouli, and Kaleseewari Srinivasan, was the only Indian film to be selected for the festival.

Vasanth, known for films like Rhythm and Nerukku Ner, last made Moondru Per Moondru Kadhal in 2013.
