Home Minister Amit Shah's opinion on 'One country, One language', and Hindi unifying India has met with a lot of resistance from various quarters. Even as Tamil Nadu politicians are planning to protest against this line of thought, various personalities from cinema have also expressed their opinions.

Joining this list is Rajinikanth, who, in a press interaction today outside the Chennai airport, said the imposition of a common language should not be done. However, he added,  "A common language not just for India but any country is good for its unity and progress. Unfortunately, one cannot bring a common language in our country. So you cannot impose any language."

Rajinikanth also argued that such a move would be resisted not only by the Southern states but also certain states in the North. 

Earlier, Kamal Haasan, in a video message uploaded on social media, put out a strongly-worded message. "No Shah, Sultan or Samrat can suddenly break that promise. We respect all languages but our mother language will always be Tamil. Jallikattu was just a protest. The battle for our language will be exponentially bigger than that," he had said.
