Malayalam actor Sathar passes away

Sathar began his career with lead roles, later becoming more prominent in negative and characters roles during the 1970s to early 80s

Veteran Malayalam actor Sathar passed away this morning. He was 67. The actor was undergoing treatment for a liver ailment for some time.

A native of Kadungalloor, Ernakulam, Sathar began his career with lead roles, later becoming more prominent in negative and characters roles during the 1970s to early 80s. His first film was Bharyaye Avashyamundu (1975). He played the lead role in Anavaranam (1976).

He had appeared in around 300 films including Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu languages. He made a comeback of sorts with Aashiq Abu's 22 Female Kottayam, in which he played a notable supporting character.

Sathar was briefly married to actor Jayabharathi before being separated in 1987. Their son Krish Sathar made his debut in the Mohanlal film Ladies & Gentleman, and also starred in Malini 22 Palayamkottai, the remake of 22 Female Kottayam

Apart from acting Sathar also produced a couple of films such as the Ratheesh-Balan K Nair film, Revenge (1985), and the Babu Antony-starrer Kambolam (1994). His last acting venture was Parayaan Baakki Vechathu (2014).
